The end of the year is always a good time for reflection and looking forward to what the year ahead will bring. I am so thankful to have so many things… my husband and boys, my health, great friends, Oreos, coffee (What?!! Don’t judge me…I put the kids before Oreos! Sheesh!) and to have found something that I love and that fills me with so much joy and gives me a space of my own to be able to be creative and do what I love to do. This blog has been a blessing to me this year. After all, as we are living our lives and breaking in our new home with projects, diys and epic diy fails why not document it, right?!
As I was going through our old photos I can see just how far we have come in a year. From the 6 month build to moving day, paint, installs and some good ol’ sweat equity the house is really becoming a home! I thought it might be fun to show you all some of my favorite DIY’s from 2017 and chat a bit about whats in store for this home of ours in 2018!
One of my very favorite projects has been the wainscoting! Man, you want to talk about a transformation, this is definitely it! Check out this before and after of our dining room…
And here in our entryway…
The wainscoting gives the home a custom feel and adds interest to otherwise boring, and plain rooms. Full disclosure: We DID NOT DIY the trim work…hence the fact that we are, indeed, still married! We actually have an amazing carpenter who worked with us to create the look we were going for and he is super affordable!
Next up the the front door transformation! Just look what less that a quart of paint can do!
This project deserves all of the heart-eye emojis! Again, just adding paint makes the space look more custom and expensive. It isn’t all for looks though! There is a practical reason for painting your front door a dark color as well…kids, in particular…boys! This upgrade is a great way to camouflage those dirty little fingerprints that get all over the door from the constant in and out too!
Finally, Fireplace Built-ins!!! I so wish I had a before of the bare walls on either side of our fireplace but, alas, yet another i phone (and all of its photos) met an untimely end soooo…
Again, the hubs and I did not go near the construction of these pretties with a 10ft pole. Our DIY’s are limited to things that don’t need to be 100% level or flush and can be limited to a day or two! Boy I love these built-ins though!
Three of my absolute faves!
For 2018 My husband and I have lots of home improvement wishes! For me, I would love to get some better toy storage in our basement with built-in shelving. I also want to have our carpenter build some glass-front cabinets on a few of our kitchen cabinet uppers. Painting rooms and showing our basement some love is on the list too. A DIY firepit, and playhouse for the kiddos might be in store as well! Let me know what you’d like to see on the blog this year, I’d love to hear from you!!
Happy New Year Friends, Thank you for the bottom of my heart for following along!
